Diverse Minds Uganda: Six Months of Inclusion, Empowerment and Community Impact
Over the past six months, Diverse Minds Uganda has continued to champion neurodiversity awareness, empower caregivers and promote inclusion through community outreach, partnerships, fundraising and family support initiatives.
Highlights of Our Activities
1. Autism Awareness Day – 2 April 2026
Diverse Minds Uganda celebrated and contributed to Autism Awareness Day under the Autism Society, joining fellow advocates to promote autism awareness, acceptance and inclusion for autistic individuals and their families.
2. Family Reunification Support – June 2026
Diverse Minds Uganda remains committed to supporting families of neurodivergent children, including efforts to reunite missing children with their loved ones. In June 2026, we provided financial support and assistance in the search for Adikin Mercy, who had been missing for more than a week. This initiative reflects our commitment to standing alongside vulnerable families and advocating for the safety and well-being of neurodivergent children.
3. Baking Training for Parents and Caregivers – 6–9 August 2026
In partnership with WEAVANA, we organised a four-day baking training programme for parents and caregivers. The initiative aimed to equip participants with practical baking skills, build confidence and explore potential income-generating opportunities, empowering families to strengthen their livelihoods while caring for neurodivergent children.
4. Fundraising Campaign – August 2026
Diverse Minds Uganda launched a fundraising campaign to mobilise resources for its charitable work. The campaign aimed to strengthen our capacity to support neurodivergent children and their families and advance our mission of creating more inclusive and supportive communities.
5. Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Campaign – August 2026
We launched and spearheaded the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower campaign to raise awareness and promote understanding of invisible disabilities. Through the distribution of T-shirts to children, alongside awareness posters and leaflets to various organisations, we encouraged greater recognition, understanding and acceptance of people living with hidden disabilities.
6. Neurodivergent Awareness Workshop – Mbarara, Western Uganda
In partnership with Buhumuriro and WEAVANA, Diverse Minds Uganda conducted a neurodivergent awareness workshop in Mbarara, Western Uganda. The workshop aimed to increase public understanding of neurodiversity, challenge stigma and encourage more inclusive environments where neurodivergent individuals and their families feel understood, respected and supported.
